5 for Friday

I have been implementing a partner competition in my math lessons.  While students practice a math skill, I partner them up, give them a whiteboard and marker, and have them work problems together.  I give them 1 - 2 minutes to complete each problem, and then they are to show me their boards. (The usually just hold them up in the air.)  I them go around rewarding points.  Everyone gets a point for trying, if they get it correct, they get two points.  They keep track of their points using tally marks, and the winning team gets to spin the spinner.  It is just like practicing on paper, but they LOVE it! I love it too. It is an excellent way to motivate them to try their best!

Speaking of math.. I have some math properties posters in my TPT store that you can download for free.  I downloaded and printed mine in black and white, but these posters are full color. The kids use them often as a reference tool.  Click the image below to download yours for free!

My favorite day of the year.. NERD DAY!! haha I enjoyed dressing up this year. We do these themed days to get the students motivated to try their best on the end of the year summative assessment.
I can't express how proud I am of my students writing growth. One of the strategies we use in our class is the "RACE" strategy. This teaches students to restate their answers, answer it in their own words, and provide evidence from text.  I have created a resource that I implement in my classroom everyday. You can download it below!

Right after school I am traveling to Virginia. Tomorrow morning I will be running in my first 10k race! I am nervous, but excited. I will let you know how it goes!! :)

Happy Teaching!!
