How to Create an Affirmation Station so You Can Help Empower Your Students

You might be wondering . . . what in the world is an affirmation station?? Well, affirmation is a form of emotional support or encouragement. Believe it or not, kids need tons and tons of affirmation that they are good enough and doing thing correctly. They spend most of their days with us, their teachers, so I believe it’s important to find ways to remind them how amazing they are. You would be surprised how easily you can make a child feel good about themselves with something as simple as an affirmation station. Let me show you more.

Get Your Supplies

To create an Affirmation Station, the first thing you will need is a full length mirror. I purchased mine from Walmart HERE, but you can find these thin mirrors at practically any store. You will also need

tape
an affirmation header for the top of the mirror
“I am” or “You are” header
Affirmation Cards

You can make your own affirmation cards to tape to the mirror or you can purchase my ready made cards. I have a Rainbow Affirmation Station Kit or a Boho Rainbow Affirmation Station Kit. Both of these kits include everything listed above, except for the mirror and the tape.

Construct Your Affirmation Station

Think about some traits that you know are true about yourself. Put some affirmations in your head that make you feel empowered. Now think, your students want to hear those same exact things. They want to feel loved, valued and safe in your classroom. You can find something amazing about anyone, so be sure to put up affirmations that can apply to each and every one of your students.

Once you have chosen the phrases you want to use, simply hang up your mirror, lean it against a wall or hang it on the back of the classroom door. Then, tape the headers to the top of the mirror and the phrases to the sides. Students can then look at and read all of the wonderful things that ARE true about themselves. I like to use some of the following affirmations on our mirror.

“I am” or “You are”

Brave
Kind
Strong
Worthy
Heard
Loved
Valued
Sweet
Fierce
Peaceful
Successful
Capable
Important

If you can’t think of any of your own affirmations to use, you can use the 36 affirmation cards included in my two sets. There are also blank, editable cards so you can change the language or add additional affirmations you think of. You can choose from the Rainbow Affirmation Station Kit or the Boho Rainbow Affirmation Station Kit.

Watch As Your Students Are Empowered!

Using an Affirmation Station will help your students feel seen in the classroom. Using the mirror as a reminder of their worth will help them blossom during their school year with you. I like to have my students choose one affirmation a day that they can focus on. They might choose “I am peaceful” on a day when they feel especially calm or they might choose “I am silly” on a day when they are excited and overly happy!

They don’t have to report their thoughts to you. This station can be extremely private, but my students always enjoy having something that reminds them how amazing they are each day. I find it brightens my mood when I use it too! You’ll see how empowered your students feel after implementing this amazing tool in your classroom. You’ll see their learning, teaching and leadership improve among one another. Feeling confident about themselves will make them confident in all aspects of their lives.
